چکیده
With a range of programs focused on local plant and insect conservation, the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden works with partners our communities to restore landscapes thriving ecosystems for wildlife people. We used organizational identity theory (OIT) evaluate current strategies practices five determine opportunities adaptation better achieve conservation goals. Case studies ranged from habitat restoration wetlands gardens community engagement encourage individual gardeners reintroduction endangered plants insects. present program characteristics how collaborative partnerships facilitate zoos lead flora fauna. The OIT framework reveals components critical strategy implementation best relevant other zoos, aquariums, botanical when evaluating their initiatives.

Insect Conservation and Diversity Insect conservation - finding the way forward
Relatively speaking, the conservation of mammals, birds and other large terrestrial vertebrates is a simple task. The bulk of species are described, their ecologies are reasonably well known, the threats to their habitat or breeding systems are often documented, and the funding to implement recovery programmes readily available; e.g. mammals and birds are charismatic and the general public are ...
متن کاملBuy Local? Organizational Identity in the Localism Movement
Localism is a social movement often associated with “buy local” food initiatives or the prevention of big-box retail expansion. At its core, however, localism is also about fostering local independence by encouraging businesses to opt for local alternatives when making purchasing decisions. In this article, we develop and test hypotheses that organizations with stronger communityoriented identi...

متن کاملIdentity and combinations of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal isolates influence plant resistance and insect preference
1. Accumulating evidence indicates that plant resistance against aboveground herbivores can be affected by the presence of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in association with the host plant. Little is known, however, about how AMF composition can influence herbivore choice to feed on a particular plant. 2. Unravelling the preference–performance hypothesis in a multitrophic context is needed ...
متن کاملPlant polyploidy and insect/plant interactions.
We used flow cytometry and extensive geographic surveys of herbivore attack to test whether repeated evolution of autotetraploidy in the perennial herb Heuchera grossulariifolia Rydb. (Saxifragaceae) has created evolutionary barriers to attack by the specialist moth herbivore Greya politella (Prodoxidae). We found that the moth has colonized tetraploid as well as diploid populations, has coloni...
